Nashville Wedding Photographer Laura K. Allen |Tips for Getting THE BEST Photos on Your Wedding Day

March 7, 2016

You’ve been dreaming about your Nashville Wedding since the moment he asked you to marry him (and in many cases, years before that!).  Your venue, your Nashville Wedding Photographer, your dress, the cake, the decor, the look on his face when he sees you for the first time, the look on YOUR face when you realize he’s not going to *nicely* feed you your first bite of cake…  You can’t wait for the big day, and once it’s over, you can’t wait to see your wedding photos!!  It is my job as your Nashville Wedding Photographer/ Ninja to ensure that your photos are the bomb.com, so I’ve decided to create this blog post to give you some tips about how to make this dream a reality.

Don’t skip the engagement session.  It’s our chance to get comfortable with one another before the wedding.  We get to spend an hour or two getting to know eachother and figuring out which poses/actions are the best for you and your fiance! Being snuggly with your fiance in front of a camera can be scary/intimidating/awkward if you aren’t used it, so let’s conquer these feelings before the wedding day!

Getting ready spaces with lots of natural light are the best for photos!  At least one large window is ideal.  If the space you are getting ready in doesn’t have any windows, let me know and we will come up with a great lighting solution!  Sometimes bridal suites have great lighting… and sometimes they are church basements with fluorescent lighting and this is BAD NEWS BEARS.  Informing me of any lighting challenges a head of time is definitely a great idea!

Notify & remind family members about the family formals. It’s imperative that you notify every member of your family ahead of time (and remind them at the rehearsal dinner!) when/where they are needed for family portraits! Otherwise, we might miss an important shot if we can’t find your favorite uncle or if your cousin Jenny is making a phone call in a secluded area.  Send them an e-mail so they know what is expected of them!

Ask your guests to put their cellphones/ipads away. Having an unplugged ceremony is the best way to ensure that those cellphones aren’t blocking your groom’s view of you coming down the aisle. 😉

Your first kiss… By no means do I want to choreograph your first kiss as husband & wife, but just take note that quick smooches are harder to capture!  Elongate your kiss to ensure we get a great shot!

Dance for the camera at your reception!  I have a great advantage that I’m petite and can work through crowds pretty easily, but if you see me and my camera nearby, it’s always a great idea to open up and dance facing towards the camera.  I’m sure you don’t want 100 reception photos of your back to the camera, so make sure you and your husband spend some time on the dance floor together and facing the camera!

There are plenty more tips where that came from, and I’d love to discuss these with you in our consult!  If you haven’t already, fill out that contact form and we can chat in detail about your Nashville wedding photography and how I can make this an amazing experience for you!
